it used the sealed board mounted variable resistors

There are 4 motors in the Fostex R8 two for the FF and REW one for the main capstan and this little one which engages the capstan gears and lifts the tape lifter

this was used to open the cassette flap

but not the Cactus ears or Pacman plastic by the tension arms

I have left the big heatsink bar on so you just need unscrew 4 screws take your older  unit out and put this in no soldering required as
