This wonderful quality suit was made from a grey wool in the late 1940s

The v-neckline is flanked with a notched collar which marks the starting point for a row of three mother of pearl effect buttons down the waist

The rounded neckline is surrounded by a three tiered shawl collar which drapes over the wearers shoulders and meets in a knot in the centre of the bust. The dress is gathered at the waist and then pleated with extra volume added to the skirt using hip padding. A metal side zipper is used to fasten the dress. Inside, the dress is unlined and has a makers label for Stamp Taylor
